How to stop dog barkingdog training

It’s perfectly natural for a dog to bark. It only becomes a problem when you can’t sleep or cranky neighbours complain. So, we shouldn’t aim to stop a dog barking completely, but just to control it, if it is getting excessive.

Never reward barking, Give your dog basic obedience training (Sit, paw, stay, come etc.) With this, they will see you as the natural leader of the pack and will be eager to please. Get the basics of ownership right. Make sure they are exercised, fed, watered and have a good place to sleep. If the dog is barking while you are away from home, ignore them when you return. Otherwise, they will associate barking with getting you home. The messages to your dog must be clear and consistent at all times, and all family members must take part.

Identify all the triggers, Set up repeated triggers while you are around the dog. Don’t react to the trigger yourself, or order another response from the dog The dog will continue to react, but will eventually stop.
